About Us

Trained and certified in 2012, Mackenzie has worked on thousands of different dogs over years providing a gentle touch and clean teeth. In 2017 she founded Coastal Canines Teeth Cleaning with the main objective to teach people what to look for when choosing a hygienist for their pets.

Why? Because many clients are not good candidates for their first teeth cleaning due to excessive tartar and other issues like loose teeth and poor gum health. It is important to note that some pets, although rare, just do not have the personalities to sit for a teeth cleaning and in those cases we recommend that our clients see a veterinarian for care.

Our team of carefully selected practitioners are experts in their field, trained and certified through Canada's #1 Anesthesia-Free Teeth Cleaning Course. Each of our team members spend approximately 3-6 months completing their introductory training, finishing off this time of learning with a two week, hands on practicum working alongside the leaders of the Gentle Dental Academy.

We have a passion for educating pet owners and professionals about the positive effects of sedation-free teeth cleaning when applied to eligible candidates.

How does it work ?

We first provide a free consultation to determine if there are any severe issues in the mouth that need Veterinary attention. This includes anything that requires more than just a simple tartar removal. Many of our first time clients are referred to the Vet as there are many oral health concerns that our service cannot treat.

After we provide the consultation we begin the teeth cleaning. This begins with rubbing our gloved hands over the pets muzzle and underneath the lips. We then pull back the lip to accurately assess every tooth and get your pet used to being worked on. Once your pet settles and is comfortable with the relationship we establish we start to introduce our tools.

We first remove all the tartar with chosen hand scalers that fit the natural grooves and shape of the teeth. We switch sides and let our clients put their head where they are most comfortable, while working with their movements and being patient and persistent. To clean the inside of each tooth we prop the front of the mouth open with our finger.

After the tartar is removed we flush the gums with a natural anticeptic, then proceed to give each and every tooth a good polish to remove any and all soft bacteria. Lastly we apply a gel to soothe and condition the gum, and there you have it. A safe, natural alternative to having your pets teeth cleaned!
